Prescription Drugs May have caused Bus Driver to Drive Dangerously

Our school bus drivers are held to some of the highest standards, yet sometimes a driver fails to live up to obligations. Sometimes it’s from alcohol, but sometimes it’s from the unexpected reaction of a prescription drug. That’s what may have happened to a recent case in Utah. A bus driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI after nearly hitting a car. The driver was carrying 67 students on a field trip.

According to the police report, muscle relaxants were found in the driver’s purse. 911 callers describe the driver as not staying within the lanes, crossing double-yellow lines, and ignoring honking drivers as the bus went down the carpool lane.

The driver had taken the children 40 miles down I-15 before she was successfully pulled over by the Utah Highway Patrol. Thankfully, no one was hurt on board and no cars were hit. According to the district, the driver had been working for six years and had no prior incidents.… Read More

Teacher’s Aide in Hot Water after Arrest

There are many factors that go into deciding the outcome of a DUI case, but these details are easily missed by those not trained in the law. Often, if a DUI defendant doesn’t know his or her rights, they might well be overlooked in the prosecution’s zeal to get another alleged DUI offender off the streets. Every single person arrested for DUI needs a competent and experienced attorney to ensure all rights of the defendant are respected.

A teacher’s aide in Berks County was arrested after she allegedly ripped up an elementary school lawn due to driving under the influence.

The 48-year-old teacher’s aide, of Hamburg, Pennsylvania, was attempting to park her car around 9 in the morning, according to investigators, when she ran into a backhoe in the parking lot. When she tried to reverse her car, then drive forward again, she struck the backhoe once more.

Once again, she put her car in reverse and sped up, but instead of leaving, she drove into the curb a number of times, eventually driving onto the lawn, before finally driving down the street only to hit a parked car, police say.… Read More

5th DUI for Delaware Man

Police have arrested a Delaware man on what would potentially be his fifth DUI offense. Authorities with the Harrington Police Departments say that Randall W. Bowden, 47, was placed under arrest on Sunday morning and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol,  driving on a suspended or revoked license, as well as other related charges.

They received a 911 call at about 1:00 a.m. about a possible intoxicated driver on South DuPont Highway on the outskirts of Harrington. Officers responded to the call and located the vehicle being driven by Bowden that had left the left lane of the highway and was driving on the shoulder of the highway. In the report the officers said there was a strong scent of alcohol coming from Bowden’s vehicle. Officers then administered a variety of field sobriety tests which Bowden failed. He was arrested and taken into custody.

Officers checked Bowden’s license by computer and found that he had a suspended driver’s license and four prior convictions from 2001 to the present.… Read More
