Fake DUI attorney “Grandparent Scam” Leads to Four Arrests

A grand jury investigation into a so-called “Grandparent Scam” has led to four arrests. Spencer Compas, Witson Lavilette and Johanne Wesh have been charged with two counts of corrupt organizations and one count each of criminal conspiracy, identity theft and theft by deception. The warrant for Kens Wesh remains active, though authorities believe they know the general location of Wesh. Those arrested and charged so far have conned money out of elderly victims by posing as attorneys claiming to represent family members who have been arrested for DUI or related charges and requested large sums of money for lawyers’ fees and bail money.
