Alternatives to Driving Drunk After Playoff Football Games

It’s a historic time if your live in Pennsylvania. Both the Philadelphia Eagles and the Pittsburgh Steelers are in the NFL playoffs. Who will you be rooting for? We know who we will be cheering on, but we still wish your team well!

If you’re going to be out watching the big game, you may have a few alcoholic beverages. There’s nothing wrong with that, provided you are legally permitted to drink but there could be something very wrong with choosing to drive home. If you consume adult beverages and get behind the wheel, you could make it home safely. Then again, you could find yourself dealing with a DUI or, worse, with the knowledge that you have injured or killed someone.

You don’t have to stage your own prohibition on game day. You also don’t have to drive. You can easily enjoy yourself and stay safe at the same time. Here are some ideas for having a game day that ends as well as it began (assuming your team wins).

1. Ride Sharing

You can make use of a ride sharing app like Uber or Lyft if available in your area. If you live in a larger city, you may want to be prepared for longer-than-average wait times and higher prices on game day. These apps provide excellent ways to get home safely. Just remember that you will need a way to pick up your car the next day.

2. Public Transportation

Public transportation is another option. If you choose to take a bus, be mindful of your manners. There is nothing that says a bus driver can’t kick you off, or call the police, if you become belligerent.

3. Sober Friend

Chances are that you have at least one friend or family member who doesn’t care about the game but does care about you. Ask that person if they can act as your ride. You may have to agree to be picked up at a certain time and feel a bit like a high school kid again, but you’ll get home safely and that’s what matters.

4. Host the Party

A surefire way of not driving home drunk is not to leave home in the first place. Why not host gameday in your living room? You can take people’s keys at the door and ask people to stay if they’ve had too much to drink. You can also control the alcohol that is being served and cut people off when you believe they’ve had enough.
